1937 ALL STAR GAME
 
 

The fourth spectacular All Star game held in Griffith Stadium, Washington and was won by the National League by the scores of 4-1. As a favorite pastime of American's, All Star game was showcased in nation's capital. President Franklin Roosevelt attended this game. Great performances given by Gehrig and Joe Medwick stole the show. After this game Dizzy Dean's career came to an end. After sfurrendering a home run to Lou Gehrig, Pitcher Dizzy Dean was disappointed. In the third innings Earl Averill came up to bat, hit a line that hit Dean's right foot. The fracture in the toe was not serious. The delivery in the game was affected by the injury and at the age of twenty-six his glory days came to an end. With the retirement of Babe Ruth, Dean had become the most magnetic performer in baseball. For the fourth time Lefty Gomez starting for the American League and won his third game. A win by two run homer in the third by Lou Gehrig, Lefty Gomez s insured the victory of his team. The entire game was conquered by the Yankees. Before Gehrig's home run Joe DiMaggio singled, Red Rolfe singled and tripled with two runs, Bill Dickey singled and doubled and a double added to Gehrig homer and drove in four runs.
