The game was held in Cincinnati 's Crosley Field. From the home out of nine, five members had been chosen. Ival Goodman, a right fielder started for the Nationals. Cincinnati 's lefty Johnny Vander Meer had never been a big prospect but his appearance was good for the outcome for the National League. By pitching back-to-back no-hitters against the Boston Bees and Brooklyn Dodgers he had electrified baseball. Vander Meer pitched for the three innings and gave up only one hit. Frank McCormick with a single opened the seventh and Leo Durocher, the next batter, was ordered to give up. As the order of the third baseman Jimmie Foxx, Leo Durocher had to sacrifice. Foxx threw the ball into the right field and made the scoop. In right in deference to Earl Averill, Joe DiMaggio raced in, picked up the ball and fired it. His throw was too high that it sailed over Bill Dickey's head. This game was considered to be one of the strangest plays ever played on the baseball field which makes it to be unforgettable and outstanding.
