In 1948 All Star Game, held at the Sportsman's Park in St. Louis featured homerun by Stan Musial and Hoot Evers. The American League won the game by 5-2. The American League for the first time came into the game at a decisive difficulty when Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams were injured that limited their performance. The opening third baseman George Kell met with an ankle injury and he missed the game. Most of the people believed that this may be a chance for the National League to take advantage of the misfortunes of the American League.
The American League in the fourth inning loading the bases with pitchers Johnny Schmitz. Ken Keltner, Birdie Tebbetts walked and George McQuinn singled. This game continued to add another W in the winning column of the American League. This game was considered to be an unlucky for the National League.
