The American League came up as a winner in the 24th annual All-Star game played at Busch stadium in St. Louis . The American League defeated the National League with 6-5. A crowd of 30,693 fans watched the Americans achieve their 14th win. The whole team was elected by the fanatical Cincinnati voters; this was the main reason for the Controversy surrounded the 1957 outing. Reds fans voted and selected seven of the eight starters who were Cincinnati players. Commissioner Ford Frick permitted only five starters who were 2B Johnny Temple, LF Frank Robinson, C Ed Bailey, SS Roy McMillan and 3B Don Hoak. He eliminated Gus Bell and Wally Post from the starting nine. The next year he transferred his responsibility for All-Star voting to the players, managers and coaches. The loss was incurred by starter of National league Curt Simmons of Philadelphia . The American league, leading all the way, finally held off the Nationals for a 6-5 victory.
