The second All Star game was held in Los Angeles Coliseum. This game provided an opportunity for the American League to defeat the National League. In the third inning the Yankees' veteran catcher Yogi Berra made a two run homer. A rookie pitcher Jerry Walker was the winning pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles from American League. The new "doubleheader" format was played on August 3 and over 90,000 fans attended this spectacular show. The final score was in the favor of the American All-Stars, 5 to 3. Both fans and press felt that the series were meaningless as both teams walked away with success. Into the top of the seventh the American League took another lead and scored another run. Tony Kubek reached third after walking and advancing to second on pickoff attempt. On fielding error of Ernie Banks, Pete Runnels reached first. In the bottom of the seventh inning the National League tightened with Jim Gilliam's homer. In the top of the eighth inning the American League hurriedly got Rocky Colavito's homerun.
