The 1993 Midsummer Classic was one of the memorable at-bats in the history of the Midsummer Classic. The game was held at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland, on July the13. This time the National League fired the first shot as American League starter Mark Langston was rocked for a two-run homer by Gary Sheffield that also brought in Barry Bonds. The American League answered back with two home runs. After shaking off the first-inning, the American League pitching staff down to business and allowed only one run four hits and did not walk a batter. Kirby Puckett, who had no extra-base hits in seven previous All-Star Games, hit a bases-empty homer in the second and had a run-scoring double in a three-run fifth-inning rally that broke a 2-2 tie and sent the American League to its sixth straight victory.
During the 1993 Midsummer Classic, Barry Bonds tied the record for most doubles hit by a player during a single All-Star game with two. John Smoltz of the Atlanta Braves tied the record for most wild pitches during an All-Star game with two, and they both happened during the sixth inning. This was the first All-Star game for the Florida Marlins which sent Gary Sheffield and Bryan Harvey. And also the first time for the Colorado Rockies franchise which sent Andres Galarraga. The National League continued to raise the bar on their record for consecutive losses. Kirby Puckett was honored the All-Star Most Valuable Player Award. He was the first Minnesota Twins’ All-Star to win the Most Valuable Player Award. The Fans at Oriole Park booed throughout the game, because the American lineup was full of Toronto Blue Jays. Seven to be exact of which three were elected by the fans and four of which were selected by the skipper, Cito Gaston. The American League won 9-3 against the National League.
